The Río Simpson unit, located at kilometer 37 of the route that connects the cities of Coyhaique and Puerto Aysén, belongs to the named communes, in the provinces of the same name, of the Aysén Region of General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo.
In it, the Simpson River stands out, which separates two sections of the Reserve and is parallel to the Coyhaique-Puerto Aysén road. Its tributaries are the Cascada de La Virgen and Correntoso rivers.
The predominant plant formations are montane (common coigüe, tepa, canelo, notro and chilco) and Aysén deciduous forest (ñirre, lenga and calafate). Its fauna includes: puma, huemul, condor, eagle, kingfisher, thrush, chucao, thrush and cachaña, among others.
