22-Day South America & Antarctica Holiday Cruise on MS Zaandam - Holland America

No worries about Chilean peso, Uruguayan peso or Argentine peso. We were able to pay by credit card or in dollars for goods, tours, attractions and restaurants. We used Chilean peso only for the bus in Castro. We paid in Chilean peso the funicular in Valparaiso but also $1 was accepted.
In Falkland Islands we paid in British pounds (they also have their own currency, Falkland Islands pound but it might not be accepted back at the UK banks). We could have easily paid in dollars and euros, too.

Keep in mind that Mondays many tourist attractions are closed in Latin America. For example the teleférico (cable car) in Santiago or Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur in Buenos Aires.

Southern point we reached (64°50'53.3"S 62°59'42.3"W):

Aconcagua AR
We had a one day trip from Santiago to Aconcagua Provincial Park - Mendoza, Argentina with a stop at Puente del Inca (Inca Bridge Natural Monument) and on the way back at Laguna del Inca in Portillo sky resort.
We used Andes Wind and were very happy with the Argentinian guide who is the owner. The border crossing was a breeze and we did not have to worry about anything (we considered first renting a car but found it too time and nerve consuming, with reports about safety and with forms needed for crossing the border to Argentina).
